Miss Leila Waddell

It is on a service provided by the National Library of Australia; and there is a further photograph listed, but which is not yet available. But with many new newspapers added of late, there are now 186 hits for her name; and probably more that haven't registered that could be found with some effort.

Most are simple, musical notices but there is a mention in the Sydney Morning Herald, in 1913, of the success of her Ragtime Band in England and Europe. Most notable of the new biographical information is that she returned to Australia with her brother, who was returning from the war, in 1919. And she came back in 1924 before, apparently, going back to London before her 1925 return. Also there is an interesting story about having sold violins in New York, before the war, for a rich Glasgow uncle. And, fascinatingly, there is a claim that she made to the SMH in 1925 that she had both a novel and a volume of short stories almost ready for publication by a London firm.

Also there is a notice of her engagement in 1931, which, apparently, didn't result in a marriage.

There was some recent wild, biographical speculation on Lashtal about Miss Waddell. Perhaps someone could notify whoever was behind that of this material?
